Oog, messy today.

I picked this one up tonight knowing full well I would not have time to finish the perspective for the hallway, much less the main body of the sketch, but I went ahead anyways.

I always find myself fascinated by rough sketches. They're like artistic Cliff Notes; you can see the underlying technique stripped of all the distracting surface gloss.

I don't know that anyone is fascinated by my personal process. In this case, there is a technical confession I have to make: I've been using my bad old blue pencil crutch for several months now. This is the one where the construction phase of the drawing is all done in blue, so that I can press a button and voila, instant clean sketch.

It has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to posting roughs. Usually when I post something like this, it's a blue pencil sketch that I have tweaked the hell out of just to get it visible. This time, I knew I'd be posting the rough, so I did it in 3H pencil instead. Partly to save tweaking time, and partly out of consideration for your eyes.

3H sketches tend to be messier, but I found that tonight I was able to get a bit more actual weight in the sketch. Maybe I'll switch back!
